 Power Supplies

A good power supply is the heart of any CNC electronic control system.

My 80 volt supply is 300 watt capacity.

Most power supplies, like the one opposite come with additional low voltage outputs suitable for running relays etc. You may have to run the lower voltage through a secondary voltage regulator to drop the voltage again, say from 12 volts to 5 volts if you need this.

You will also require a 12 volt supply for switching relays etc. and possibly a 5 volt supply to run other lights and bits and pieces such as probes.

Some web articles suggest building your own powerfully, however I would not recommend this for several reasons.

  • Pre-made power supplies are so cheap now it’s not worth making them.

  • Pre-made power supplies are safer and usually have built in shut-offs
