To Microstep or not
To Microstep or Not ?
One of the points that keeps coming up with stepper motors , is whether to set micro steps to another value other than the usual 200 parts per revolution (which most motors are designed with).
The technical problem with doing this is that the higher the micro steps the lower the torque values. Apparently this can be quite large on most motors. Running the motors slower also helps, as the torque drops off with speed. A chart is available on the Leadshine site, showing this.
I have set the micro steps to 1000 on the Leadshine system, and the system seems to cope adequately.
This number was decided on, by looking through the mach4 recommended drive parameter settings in the mach4 setup manual.
The section refers to the recommended steps per unit.
