Software is the most critical part of the CNC system. You can have the best and most accurately automated machine, but it is useless without good software.

To my mind the best software is the Mach software released and serviced by Newfangled solutions. I remember when this first arrived in about 2001. Since then many thousands of people all over the world have chipped in making this the most tested and understood and reliable software.  Looking on the web, there are hundreds of conversions and lots of people able to help if you get stuck and need help. Mach3 has over 20,000 users.

My next project is to add a 3d printer head to the X3 mill, there are projects already described using Mach3 with a simple axis transposition.
